• My mouth is filled with his ovaries I hold them, here: between my teeth O (dentist) get these birds nests out of me! (my body is not big enough) How do you fertilize what cannot be? Mason, Jordaan. “Bird’s Nest”. Spotify

My piece is heavily influenced by the imagery Jordaan Mason draws lyrically in his concept album, “Divorce Lawyers I Shaved My Head”; an album Mason describes as “the confusing ordeal of being a human”. His album uses intensive animal imagery and speaks on body dysmorphia, as well as finding euphoria through queer love.

I drew inspiration from the works of Juz Kitson while fabricating this androgenous and ambiguous form, predominantly alluding to the female form. This structure responds to the body as a site, the womb as nest. I’ve introduced an anthropomorphic quality to the “womb” being full of foraged materials like a bird’s nest would have: leaves, sticks, and eggshells. The choice of fabric, familial patterned tablecloths bring the theme of domestication as well as a softness. It’s textures tempt the spectator to feel and explore; it invites an invasiveness.
