With an acute sense of decadent nostalgia for sheer emptiness, my work aims to retrace and rediscover the abandoned field of landscape photography.  With a strong attraction to the great masters of the landscape as subject:  Ansel Adams, Lawren Harris and Georgia O’Keefe, I am working towards shaping a new style that targets the solitary beauty of nature.  I see my work as part of a new environmentalist movement fused with a strong taste for a painterly result.

As part of my career as a classical violinist, I have spent 3 months of each year since 2001 in the American Southwest.  During this time, I have focused on the beauty of the desolate, the bleak and the majestic qualities of an uninhabited, and very often, uninhabitable environment.  Part of my inspiration comes from introducing and educating others about these deserted places in a way that speaks to their beauty and not just their remote isolation.

A sabbatical in 2015-2016 drew me back to my home province of Alberta where I rediscovered the beauty of the prairies with a fresh eye.  Big skies and wide open spaces appealed to my love of the landscape as subject.  The grain elevator caught my attention for its monumental size, its architectural shape and its imposing character on the vast plain — much like a grand cathedral.   With an allure of nostalgia and the beauty of the desolate and abandoned, the elevator whispers its story through the wind in the grass, beckoning to enliven the spirits of yore and tell their story once again.
