Toronto artist Michael Brown transforms Gallery1313’s Process Gallery with reworked paintings that date back to 2002. Some of his pieces have been painted on top of panels found at the curb. The way Brown’s pieces evolve is unique and spontaneous. And because of this sometimes his ideas need to sit and ferment.
Several of Brown’s paintings on display contain either text or numbers. The numbers are taken from infinite mathematical series or numbers (Fibonacci and pi are two examples) or are generated randomly through random integer generators found online. In this way the process o fgenerating content for each piece is, in part, outside of his control.
Michael has been exhibiting since2001. He has exhibited in galleries in Latin America, Toronto and Montreal and completed an arts residency in Finland. He is a recipient of grants from the Toronto and Ontario Arts Council and his work has been featured in the Toronto Star, Spacing Magazine, Canadian House and Home and the Globe and Mail.
