Catharine Somerville was born in Canada and divides her life between both England and Canada. She was educated in both countries and completed a postgraduate diploma at Sussex University and West Dean College in the UK.
Primarily a painter, she has gradually evolved as a colourist. For her, the emotional experience of painting using her unique colour pallet has provided her a constant source of inspiration to relate and communicate something to the viewer akinto music.
This series was done in a garden: “A garden is both temporal and fleeting” she reflects,“the natural light and colour after a hard winter was like being born again”.
“A garden to walk in and immensity to dream in–what more could he ask? A few flowers at his feet and above him the stars.”―Victor Hugo, Les Misérables
