Cell Gallery : Engulfment by Lila Fatehi Engulfment, Fatehi’s solo show at Gallery 1313 is a body of sculptures and installations that explore the daunting ubiquity of plastic waste.
Her work aligns the traditions of craft and codes of practice in sculpture with ethical codes of conduct. In this exhibition, Fatehi focuses on the geometries of void and vortex using ductile polymeric fabrics and everyday materials like garbage bags. Engulfment expands on her recent investigations into forms that emerge in processes of waste circulation and retention in the hydrosphere.
Bio
Lila Fatehi (b. Iran) is a Toronto-based multidisciplinary artist. She was trained in Painting at Alzahra University and in Computer Science at Tehran’s National University. She has exhibited her work in Iran, United States and Canada. Fatehi was the recipient of the highest accolade at the 5th Biennale held by Tehran’s Museum of Contemporary Art (TMoCA.) She is a member of the Ontario Society of Artists and has been awarded numerous Ontario Arts Council grants.
Fatehi uses a variety of media (painting, drawing,sculpture, sound and video) to examine the boundaries of existence by working through subjects that often demonstrate motion and anxiety. In her recent work,she explores notions of interiority and embodied experience.
