Some attempt at rendering my fears of y(our) falling apart 2016

I see drawing as a personal explorative and meditative act where our inner most thoughts, feelings and concerns manifest. My work explores the use of drawing as a portal into our inner most private worlds. I create drawings through the use of techniques such as repetition in mark making, cutting, dyeing, twisting, binding, and staining. My focus in this installation was the creation of a three dimensional drawing where mark making was reinterpreted through the use of hand cutting, binding and staining using drawing materials. My connection to textiles as a source of inspiration both materially and historically inspire me to utilize surface design techniques into my drawing practice. Pulling inspiration from fractal patterns found in natural phenomena, – decaying and regenerating plant life – drawings were created digitally and manipulated to function as repeat patterns. The significance of this natural phenomena is its relationship to the cycle of deterioration & renewal and my fascination with them translates to the obsessive nature of my process and ultimately an attempt to control my own restless thoughts.
