What Denial Looks Like by Tricia vanOostveen

My body of work is concentrating and exploring the reality of climate change and its effects on our environment. It is a visual journey of the sublime beauty in natural environments compromised by climate change. My series “What Denial Looks Like” portrays natural disasters using the four elements of earth, air, fire, and water and inspired by the book by Naomi Kline, “This Changes Everything”. It is a commentary between the reality of cause and effect in humanity’s demise, versus the strength, beauty and resilience of nature.
My art is a hopefully a conduit which can create dialogue and avenues for action for the environment in which we live. It is my desire to show my work as a visual, political message of sustainability required for the existence of our natural world.
