Artist Statement:
My work has evolved around the idea of arranged spaces. I’m fascinated by how patterns can be disrupted and rearranged in ways that are familiar but alter the narrative. Photo constructions are an ideal way to express this idea.
‘Air Show’ is in two parts.
The first is a series of images that examines the vastness of the sky, juxtaposing tiny solitary figures with phenomena overhead. The minimalism of the images emphasizes the forces that shape, direct and sometimes overwhelm the human form. Solitude and the search for significance are key themes. The second part is aphoto montage composed of 100 images of an urban landscape, recorded from the same vantage point over a period of eight months. The humdrum of human activity fails to diminish the grandeur of the passing sky, and we are reminded to look up.
