ENCAUSTIC MONOTYPES & COLLAGES
Judith Donoahue will exhibit encaustics on paper: intuitive monotypes created on a hot palette and geometric collages layered to atmospheric monotype grounds. All works are temporarily mounted to rigid mat board with removable
archival tape for ease of professional framing.Varied themes in the monotypes arise during the process of building the composition, as pigments and medium are manipulated on the hot palette and lifted to rice paper, suggestive images arise that may be enhanced later with wax-compatible media. The collages are concerned with equilibrium. Hard-edge colour shapes float in front of an atmospheric ground, chaotic or calm, to move the composition towards a precarious balance that may be read as analogous to the effect of analytical thought in a tense situation.
