Flavio Belli
He is an art consultant for private, corporate and gallery clients since 2005. Flavio is currently co-curator of The Al Green Gallery in Toronto. He was a member of the sculpture selection committee for the McMurtry Gardens of Justice from 2007 to 2014, and a member of the Board of the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition from 2004 to 2014. He was also a two-term member, by appointment of the Governor in Council, of the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board (CCPERB) in Ottawa, from 2005 to 2012.
Flavio was director and curator of the Joseph D. Carrier Art Gallery in Toronto’s Italian community and cultural centre from 1990 to 2005. From 1999 to 2004, he was an on-camera arts commentator for Toronto Living, for Rogers Television. A visual artist in his own right, Flavio’s works have been shown in solo and group exhibitions since 1974. His artworks form part of public and private collections.
Flavio has been collecting art for 40 years and has amassed more than 3,000 original works of fine art. He also collects ephemera, antiques, folk art and crafts.
Jessica Bradley
Jessica Bradley Gallery opened in 2005. Previously, Bradley was Curator of Contemporary Art at the Art Gallery of Ontario and the National Gallery of Canada. She was also a free-lance curator for several years in Montreal and has taught contemporary art and critical theory at Ottawa University and Concordia University, Montreal. Bradley has organized exhibitions in Canada and abroad, including, Rodney Graham: A Little Thought, produced by the AGO in collaboration with the Los Angeles Museum of Contemporary Art and the Vancouver Art Gallery, and has been commissioner for Canada’s representation at the Venice Biennale three times.
David Liss
Shortly after the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art was established in 1998 David Liss was appointed Director in December 2000 with a vision to build a significant museum of contemporary art in Toronto, Canada’s largest urban centre.With a mission to support Canadian art within a global context MOCCA has evolved from modest beginnings in the Toronto Centre for the Arts in North York into an important contributor to the cultural landscape of Toronto, Canada and beyond. Occupying a facility on Queen St. West since 2005, MOCCA is poised to realize its next level of evolution at a new and larger permanent facility.
He holds a BFA (1987) in painting and printmaking from Concordia University in Montreal and from 1995 to 2000 he was Director and Curator of the Gallery of the Saidye Bronfman Centre for the Arts in Montreal. During the early 1990s he wrote art reviews for the Montreal Gazette, and has contributed articles to numerous magazines and publications.
Harry Malcolmson
For over 50 years Harry Malcolmson has been involved in Toronto art, as art critic and collector.
As art critic, he wrote for Art Forum and Canadian Art, the Toronto Star, the Globe and Mail. He served as art critic for the Saturday Night magazine and the Toronto Telegram newspaper.
As collector, together with his wife, Ann Malcolmson, initially he collected Canadian and International art. They have donated over 50 works to the AGO, including 13 early Richard Hamilton prints, as well as donations to otherCanadian art institutions.
Beginning about 25 years ago, Harry and his wife changed focus and commenced to assemble a collection of vintage photography. In late 2013 the Collection was donated to the AGO and is now on the walls of the Gallery.
Following a career as a corporate lawyer, Harry was engaged by the World Bank to assist less developed countries develop their capital markets.
Stephen Ranger
Stephen Ranger has over 25 years experience in the art world as an auctioneer, specialist appraiser and consultant. Stephen pioneered the sale of Fine Wine at auction in Canada and has been involved in some of the highest grossing sales of art and wine at auction in the last ten years. In addition, Stephen is deeply committed to serving his community and contributes his services and expertise to over twenty events each year. In 2011, Stephen founded Concrete Contemporary Auctions and Projects, to develop the auction market for Contemporary Canadian Art. Stephen currently serves as Vice President, Business Development for Waddington’s, Canada’s leading auctioneers.
Moderated By Richard Rhodes
Richard Rhodes is an author, arts journalist, curator, educator, critic, painter and photographer. Rhodes regularly writes on contemporary artists working today, primarily for Canadian Art magazine where he is currently the Editor. Richard Rhodes has been Curator of the Power Plant in Toronto, founder of the visual arts publication C Magazine, a regular contributor to Artforum magazine in New York from 1987 to 1990, and a popular lecturer and teacher across the country. As a photographer he has illustrated the City Sites and Material World columns at Toronto’s Globe and Mail. Rhodes’ paintings were included in the exhibition Weathervane, curated by Karen Love. His work has been exhibited at Dyan Marie Projects in Toronto and Galerie René Blouin in Montreal. Rhodes is the author of a popular and successful book on the history of Canadian art for young people, “A First Book of Canadian Art” 2001
