CITYSCAPES

May 28-June 8 2014
Reception: Thursday May 29, 7-10pm
Cityscapes have fascinated me all my life: From travelling through Europe and viewing the ancient ones, to viewing the North American ones on other forms of media; and to now, as a visual artist, having the ability to create cityscapes within my mind and placing them on a canvas. Cityscapes are one of my first choices to paint. I feel an enormous amount of energy in the city. I love to capture the feeling of a single moment: The swaying of a building during heavy winds; the light reflecting from the building‘s windows; and the shapes of shadows as well as the onset of dawn or dusk. in my paintings.
I exaggerate the perspective of the structures to create intensity of emotion. With the use of colour, line, and abstraction of form, some of the paintings reference the architectural grid of the built environment and the illusion of three-dimensional form.
This exhibit consists of many pieces of art that are of different sizes and shapes that have been created over the last two years. Mostly, this new series of work employs mixed-media processes, assemblages mounted on canvas consisting of found objects and other works by keeping within fine art guidelines of either pure watercolour, oil or acrylic paints; and some marker art on paper.
I reasonably price my art so that all art lovers have an opportunity to enjoy art as much as I do.
About the Artist
About four years ago, and after many years of spiritual training and esoteric teachings, I had a spiritual opening that led to both a chronic pain condition and a SATORI. After this dichotomous experience, I dropped out of the corporate world and made other major life choices that lead me to becoming a visual artist.
As a risk taker and extremist by nature, I find these characteristics being reflected in my art. I am not afraid to experiment with colour, texture, technique, substrates or applicators. I am a prolific artist with many styles and tend to paint in series of tens.
My artistic ventures are a way for me to revisit the state of “oneness” and “nowness” as well as dealing with pain. My art is a journey of self-discovery and self-expression. Art is the process by which I interpret the world that is in a non-permanent state. I believe that a finished piece of art carries the energy of the artist. Upon someone viewing the art, that energy manifests itself into an emotional state, either positive or negative. If that state is positive, then I accomplished my task and may sell a piece of art; however, if the art has a negative reaction, then I have also reached my goal as the art has had some kind of an impact on that person regardless of a sale or not.
