This Saturday Sept. 23/23 is a busy day with Gallery 1313 open 1-11pm CELEBRATE ART and the Parkdale Art Thing going 2-11pm at Queen West and Cowan . Gallery 1313 will have several exhibitions open to the public (www.g1313.org ) including artists from Argentine and Canadian Latin artists from EL Salvadore , Chile , Columbia … some live performance as well . The Parkdale Art Thing will have forty artists set up with booths at Queen & Cowan. Also that night is Nuit Blanche which is downtown , Scarborough and Etobicoke .. so people can pop by on their way to Nuit Blanche . Parkdale in past years participated in Nuit Blanche but in recent years the event has shifted to the City’s core .
It is timely that we CELEBRATE ART as Artscape is facing receivership and many artists across the city are fearful that they could potentially loose their studios and homes . Gallery 1313 itself is in an Artscape managed building for the last 26 years and we are slated to become part of the Parkdale Community Hub .. a revitalization of Parkdale’s core with 265 affordable housing units and a new library . The heritage building at 1313 Queen St. West has served as a police station for 30 some years .. division 6 City of Toronto and now is the Parkdale Arts and Cultural Centre with artist studios , Gallery 1313 and community offices . Recently it was a Boston South Police Station in the TV series REACHER .
