Oman Niazi – July 19 – 30

CELL GALLERY

Reception July 20 , 6:30pm

This artwork is entirely made with wheat straw without the use of paint. Each piece is made from carefully selected stalks that are cut into strips and cleaned by hand. The strips are then glued on the surface and cut to shape the design. The shading is done with the use of heat. This is a laborious and intricate process done meticulously as a labour of love, a meditation on the cyclical transformation of one life into another, an homage to the inherent beauty in plant life. Hailing from Afghanistan and inspired by the miniature tradition.  I have been creating art with recycled wheat straw for over twenty five years.
