Exhibition Notes  

If you plan to exhitbit at Gallery 1313, here are some guidlines and notes that will help you through the process.

Submmissions:

Notes for when you apply for a show or for membership.

  • Please submit your images as jpgs.
  • Include your last name and the title of the artwork in the file name.
  • The file size for each image should be no mor than 2 mb.
  • You can include all text in the email body.
  • Please do not produce pdf files, they are not helpful.

Promotion Requirements for each exhibition: 

A horizontal evite/poster with all relevant info and gallery 1313 logo. The pixel size of the poster is variable but should always conform to the ration of 16:9.

Please also provide the following as text:

  • Title of the exhibition
  • Dates of Exhibition
  • List of Artsits
  • Reception times
  • Background on exhibit: a short descriptive text of the concept of the show.
  • Instagram, web address and other socila media links if applicable.

Main Gallery exhibititors get a banner ad on artoronto.ca (horizontal) see www.artoronto.ca . The sooner we get promtional material, the sooner we can promote the exhibit. Any paid ads i.e. AKIMBO are up to the exhibiting artists. The gallery will post on the free platforms as well as our eblast to 2000 persons. Gallery will post to listings and media as well as social media.
 

Install 

Install is the Tuesday 11am to 6pm. If necessary more work can be done Wednesday before 1 when we open to the public. Always good to go over requirements – ie electrical , dimmed lighting etc with the director before. There is a GreenP Parking lot next to the gallery where you can onload . Always be aware of the health and safety requirements for visitors to the gallery . You don’t want art works or cords etc to cause injury to any one . There is a first aid kit available in the gallery for small cuts etc .
Most tools and ladders are available at the Gallery . Staff will use the ladder due to insurance etc. Lighting is LED  flood lights . Any difficult install must be vetted by gallery director . No double sided tape or painting of walls or floor . The gallery has several pliths available . Works can be hung from the ceiling depending on there weight .. again consult with director . Plugs can be used where necessary ( no butterfly plugs please ) Shelves may be installed on walls … consult with director for placement .. ie for video projectors as well . The gallery has most hardware but there is a HOME HAREWARE across the street . If using duct tape on the floor consult with director .. don’t want to repaint the floor if necessary . There also cut plexi & glass. The gallery walls etc must be brought back to original condition.
Artists are responsible for their own labels . Use QR codes where necessary for audio or extra visuals . The Gallery can get some posters ( limited ) printed for outside display. There is a nearby printing company  PARK AGENCY – acrooss the street . 
PANELS Critics Please advise if the Gallery needs to be closed to the public during these academic panels etc . There is usually not a lot of visitor traffic during these periods but use your descretion re closing . 
 

Reception 

If serving alcohol you are required to get an SOP ( Special Occasion Permit ) online at least a week before . Best to get a reception SOP ..private for invited guests . You should have a guest list . You need to have a server for alcohol . Other option – just Pierrer , Juice , Water , Smart Drinks , Mocktails . Food .. SOP requires small amount of food . .. cheese , grapes , pita , humus , carrots etc . The Gallery has a large tub for drinks (no need to bring coolers ) . LCBO is within two blocks . Ice across the street $3.50 a bag . Plastic cups , servettes etc can be purchased at the DOLLARAMA  next door.  A bar can be set up at the back of the Gallery . Usually best to have refreshments off to the back of the gallery . Receptions run 6:30-9:30pm . There is a small music system .. headphone jack .. or a bluetooth speaker for playlist . Use your guest list . If lisenced SOP and receipts to be posted . SOP to be used when purchasing alcohol . Be prepared to clean up after reception  Thursdays is a garbage night as well . 


Weekends 

Though you are not required to monitor on weekends Sat 1-5pm and Sun. 1-4pm it is often good to pop and and get feedback from visitors . you can also have your own guest book so visitors can comment , friends can let you know they visited . A Gallery Member  will be present . If there are an difficult set ups  ie video please leave a sheet with instructions so the Member monitoring the gallery can set up and run the video etc. A good opportunity to bring frioends and visitors to the gallery . Also talking to visitors about your work is valuable to articulate better what your work is about . good practise for any oral presentations you might need to do . 

Take Down /Striking /de Install 

This is done on the last Sunday of your exhibit . Please do any repairs necessary and leave the gallery as it was when you installed . The Member monitoring will take down their own exhibit but does what to be in the gallery to long . Please return any items used extenson cords etc . staff will do some repairs on the Monday . Make sure you have pre arranged any transport of items and art works from your install. Thanks for choosing GALLERY 1313.
