Angela Zheng – Perspectives on Carnations – 14 – 25 July

Cell Gallery

This series of work presents florals in a surreal, dream-like setting. I am drawn to the beauty of flowers, which are so varied in their form, detail, and colour. The camera allows me to focus on different ways of seeing flowers and I’m especially interested in emphasizing perspectives that cannot be seen with the naked eye. These photographs are all of carnations. In some of the photos I eliminate colour so that the viewer only sees the interplay of shadow and light. The blurred and soft nature of these photos presents carnations in a dramatically different way from what we are used to seeing. While the photos of “Flames1-3” depict carnation petals, the images evoke fire flickering. The colour photos Dreams “1-2” highlight how the different coloured petals melt together in the light
