BIO : Noor Khan
Based in Scarborough (a suburb of Toronto), born in Saudi Arabia, with roots in South Asia, Noor Khan is a community-engaged artist, director, and producer. She uses film as a collaborative process that centers the connections between human and physical geography, as well as the experience of living and loving on the margins. Noor gained her title after the local success of her first film, ‘EAST: A Relationship’, a narrative land acknowledgment which has won awards and continues to be screened at galleries, festivals, and conferences across North American universities. She recently recieved the Music Video Production (MVP) grant by the Canadian Academy of Cinema & Television to support recording artist, Sean Leon, with the production of an upcoming music video. Noor is currently directing a film funded by the City of Toronto, works as an independent producer in the community to help artists realize their vision, a director of photography for hire, and is a NeXtDoc film fellow.
Synopsis: POST SCRIPT
PostScript is an upcoming documentary short film and musical experience, distributed as a double screen installation, exploring the geographical intersections of Parkdale and Scarborough. Footage of each place sits side-by-side, unraveling similar stories and conditions that continue to create socioeconomic disparities during the colonial and postcolonial era. With attention to sound design, PostScript alienates imagery from sound to create another dimension of storytelling that focuses on the obstacles in the way of building and sustaining loving relationships in marginalized communities. P.S. stands for Parkdale and Scarborough- suitably also short for “postscript” for all afterthoughts written after the letter has been signed. Policy-making in Toronto has caused both Parkdale and Scarborough to suffer, as the two regions are afterthoughts compared to more affluent neighbourhoods (therefore, P.S.) Due to adversity, many relationships and families suffer, impacting generations after.
