ARDENT SUBJECTIVITY
These artworks represent intense emotions, notions and states of being. Words and poetic concepts or contradictions connect to and stimulate the imagery. The process of creating is dynamic and intuitive. The movement, forms, shapes, colours and gestures relate to my thoughts and feelings.
Painting is a means of expression and release. It’s a process of exploration that comes together in a unique way for each artist. Attempting different techniques, colour combinations, textures, and compositions is part the process, which moves me toward contentment and spiritual fulfilment. It’s very important for all of us to follow our inner voices and see where they lead us, despite any obstacles or doubts we experience along the way.
I’ve been inspired by many artists. Here are some quotations from artists that resonate and relate to my work:
Edvard Munch wrote, “At different moments you see with different eyes. How you see is dependent upon your emotional state. Because of this, a motif can be seen in many different ways.” Reinhold Heller. “Munch: His Life and Work.” p. 66.
Antoni Tapies claimed that “Art is a sign, an object, something that suggests reality to us in our spirit.” Victoria Combalia Dexeus. “Tapies.” p. 17.
Jack Bush said, “I paint from my belly, it’s instinct, plus a gut feeling.” 30 “I try a colour. If it’s wrong, it will scream back at you. The painting…lets you know when what you’ve done is right or wrong. And you have to listen. To pay attention.” Karen Wilkin, Ed. “Jack Bush.” p. 95.
